Not about AI in theory. About AI in actual daily legal work: which tools actually deliver, how you handle confidentiality, and how you get an AI system to remember enough to become a genuinely reliable partner.
What followed was a lively conversation with different opinions and viewpoints. And that was precisely what made it valuable. Because AI in legal practice is not a solved problem with a common answer. Which is the most honest thing you can say about where we are right now.
The confidentiality debate landed first. The concerns are legitimate. But the uncomfortable truth is this: nearly half of employees are already using their own tools, outside IT's or management's radar. Shadow IT is a real risk.
Then someone named a gap nobody had quite put into words yet.
AI has no memory. Every session starts from zero.
Who the client is, what the matter is, how the CFO prefers to be addressed has to be re-entered every time, by every team member, across every tool. The knowledge that makes a good legal counsel valuable evaporates the moment the chat closes. The most-wanted feature at that table was not a smarter model. It was simply: remember our combined knowledge.
Two other observations that stayed with me: junior lawyers are more cautious than the hype suggests. They watched AI go wrong during their studies and carry that scepticism into practice. Senior lawyers tend to be more enthusiastic. Understandable, when you remember how long certain tasks used to take.
And the concept of "vibe lawyering." Non-lawyers using AI output as legal advice, without the expertise to verify it. It is a governance question nobody has cleanly answered yet.
The conversation also moved into playbooks, cross-platform memory layers, pricing pressure on specialised legal platforms (anywhere from €20/month to numbers that require board approval), local versus open models, and whether contract negotiation will eventually run AI-to-AI with no human intermediaries at all.
Nobody knows the answer to that last one.
