What’s YouConnect’s perspective on the evolution of the role of the compliance professional across industries?

In recent years, we’ve observed growing demand for compliance roles across a variety of industries. Initially concentrated in financial services, compliance professionals have been in increasing demand in other sectors such as technology, healthcare and manufacturing.

Recruiting compliance professionals presents several challenges for companies. Firstly, the job requirements are often highly specific, necessitating a unique combination of legal expertise, business processes know-how and risk management skills.

Secondly, there’s a shortage of qualified talent to answer the growing demand. Many organizations are looking to strengthen their compliance teams at the moment, resulting in a high level of competition for the top candidates. To attract the best talent, a strong employee value proposition is essential. Companies should emphasize the strategic and value-added role that compliance professionals play.

Additionally, the lack of a dedicated “compliance degree” means that compliance is often unfamiliar territory for those at the start of their career. Furthermore, compliance roles are occasionally perceived as less dynamic or engaging, which can deter interest, despite the critical importance and diverse challenges these positions offer.

Finally, it can be challenging to find candidates who combine technical expertise with the interpersonal skills needed to influence business decisions effectively.
